DIFFERENCE TUBE BAGS AND SIDE-SEAL BAGS

Tubular bags

Tubular bags are co-extruded in one production process in 3 or 5 layers (PA/PE or PE/PA/PE) at very high temperatures. HEVEL produces only the 3-layer version for vacuum bags. This gives less leakage. From this tubular film, the bags are cut to size and sealed with one bottom seal. If you hold the bag up to the light, you will see vertical extrusion lines.

Disadvantage:
  • Higher price.N.B. By commissioning a state-of-the-art production line, HEVEL is now able to supply tube bags for (almost) the price of side-seal bags.
Disadvantage:
  • No de-lamination.
  • Only 1 seal.
  • Less chance of pleats.
  • The bags are flexible and have more stretch, resulting in less leakage with sharp products.
  • The pockets are clear.

Side seal bags

In general, side-seal bags are made of Polyethelene film, to which Nylon film is glued on the outside. This is called lamination. This flat laminate film is then sealed to size with 2 or 3 seal edges. If you hold the bag up to the light, you can clearly see the laminate print.

Disadvantage:
  • The "adhesive layer" can loosen (de-laminate), especially in the freezer.
  • The seal is always the weak point in vacuum bags. The more seals, the more weaknesses.
  • The probability of folds in the customer's seal is significantly higher. This leads to more leakage.
  • The foil is harder, so bones pierce through it faster.
  • The bags are cloudy due to the laminate imprint.
  • Side-seal laminate bags naturally contain a lot of bacteria on the inside.

  • Lower price.
